From the Tree Top……..

It has been an exciting six months for Daddy and Ethel.  Travel, award ceremony, family visits and moving have kept them very busy.

In September, Daddy visited the War World II Memorial in Washington D.C.  He felt very much the celebrity as folks came up to him and said “Thank you for serving our country.”  He was the subject in many photographs, sometimes alone, sometimes with other veterans.  One young lady asked to have her photo take with him.  The   memorial gives  long over due recognition and tribute to the brave men that fought to liberate much of Europe sixty years ago.  See the Veteran Page for more photos.

On November 10, Daddy was awarded the  Bronze Star for bravery for his part of World War II.  It was presented to he and  68 other veterans (including our own Uncle Floyd Purvis, mother’s brother) at the Phillippe Performing Arts  Center on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.  The medals were presented by U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Boyd Ashcraft.

In late November, Daddy and Ethel moved into their new home at        Northwood    Manor   Retirement     Community. They are happy living in the assistant living facility where many are there daily needs are met.  They have the option of eating their meals with other residents in the dining room or fixing them in their apartment.  A van is available for transportation to the doctor or for shopping and someone is available 24 hours a day for emergencies.  While Daddy hasn’t found a checker player  to challenge, they do have the opportunity to play  euchre every Wednesday afternoon.  Their new address is Apartment 210, 1590 West Timberview Drive, Marion, IN 46952 and the phone number is 765-651-0414.  Also, very nice guest facilities are available, with advance notice, for $45 a night.

In December, Daddy was asked to recite scripture at the church service.  Several family members were on hand as he recited 40 plus versus.  He and Ethel spend a great deal of time memorizing scripture.

Unfortunately they had to say “good-bye” to Skeeter, Ethel’s little poodle, in November.  She had him for many years and misses him very much.

From Pauline’s Branch…………

Danny Venable, Anna’s husband, returned from Quatar, Saudi Arabia, in November.  Sarah Lamb, Anna’s daughter is quite the sales person.  Anna says “last year she was top cookie seller (Girl Scout) with 298 boxes, and this year she is top seller again with 716 boxes.”

From Margie’s Branch…………

Kenny Pittman, Margie’s husband, apparently had a heart attack in January .  No other details are available, except he is recuperating at home.

From Mary’s Branch……………

Mary and Steve Martz are wintering in Arizona and Southern California.

From Eunice (Chris’) Branch……….

In December and January, Randy and Chris Janne  visited family in Colorado, Texas and Indiana.  Chris is changing jobs.   While continuing to work for Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, she will be switching from the pain management department to the working with  health line.  There she will answer calls pertaining to health crises and do follow-up calls to patients treated in the hospital’s out patient areas and emergency room.
